Job Description
Manages truck and trailer tire maintenance for all United Road Services (URS) terminals. Works with location’s maintenance supervision to ensure understanding and compliance with URS tire policy and process with frontline personnel. The prime focus of this position will be to maximize tire life and lower URS tire cost per mile.
Essential Functions:
Carrying out URS’s organizational values and operating in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and URS policies are required functions. Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following.
1. Ensure URS maintenance facilities are performing tire maintenance in a safe and efficient manner and comply with URS safety policies.
2. Audit URS maintenance facilities to ensure they are adhering to DOT, OSHA, EPA, DOL and other government regulatory agencies requirements when performing tire maintenance.
3. Provide the necessary leadership to build, implement, and maintain an effective tire strategy for URS maintenance operations.
4. Provide leadership with Location Maintenance teams in focusing on Corporate KPI’s that will drive Tire cost and Breakdown frequency reduction
5. Periodically assist the VP of Maintenance in creating tire budgets.
6. Monitor company and individual location’s performance to assigned KPI objectives and budgets.
7. Analyze tire operating costs and develop plans to address any operational shortfalls, by working with location’s management, Regional Maintenance Management or VP of Maintenance as needed
8. Strive for continuous improvement in lowering URS’s tire cost per mile by constantly surveying the industry, meeting with tire OEMs and vendors, identifying best practices, and utilizing the best cost strategies with the goal to maximize tire life and overall operational profitability.
9. Ensure tire purchasing compliance with URS national account programs in shop terminals and over-the-road situations. Monitor tire inventories at shop terminals to ensure proper levels are maintained. Recommend any needed changes to the URS VP of Maintenance.
10. Conduct frequent out-of-service tire analysis (OOSTA) at URS locations, in cooperation with local management and tire vendors, gather data on failure tire failure trends and provide periodic reporting.
11. Conduct periodic tire audits of URS in-service equipment.
