Description
This position is essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.
SUMMARY
Highly specialized administrative work in conducting background investigations into candidates, both civilian and sworn, who are being considered for appointment and their suitability for all open positions of the Sheriff's Office. Serves as a liaison between applicants and the Sheriff's Office in a professional manner. Serves as a liaison between applicants and Human Resources. Must be knowledgeable of general background verification processes and basic polygraph examinations. Special projects may require occasional weekend and evening work. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the Sheriff's Office.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives; maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
Responsible for documentation, completion, and maintenance of all agency background investigations for employment.
Responsible for administering polygraph examinations to new hires, both sworn and civilian.
Works in conjunction with the Sworn Recruiter/Background Investigator in processing candidates through extensive background investigation, candidate selection, interview process, and professional testing.
Attend job fairs, recruitment seminars and law enforcement/correction academies and other appropriate settings as requested to assist in the agency's recruiting efforts.
Works as a liaison with various staff in the onboarding process of all new agency employees.
Inputs, accesses, and retrieves information from a computer, including employment and/or investigative programs.
May be subject to random drug testing.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum of five (5) years of general clerical experience required.
Knowledge of human resources practices, and of background verification processes associated with employment onboarding, including health insurance and pension benefits required.
Experience in working for a law enforcement agency, with knowledge of law enforcement background policies and procedures required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certified Psychophysiological Detection of Deception preferred or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year from date of hire required.
Possession of valid Florida Driver's License class "E" and maintenance of a clean driving record required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Skill in the use of business English, spelling, and punctuation to prepare documents, compose letters, etc. Proficient in verbal and written communication.
Skill in the operation of a computer, keyboard, and other office equipment. Ability to perform and interpret polygraph examinations.
Ability to input, access and retrieve information from a computer/Advanced Microsoft Office Skills to include Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
Ability to model respect for individuals, teams and the agency.
Ability to stay centered when challenged.
