About the Role
The Company is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its global alternative investment fund manager. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Legal and Compliance team, which plays a critical role in managing legal and compliance risks and anticipating regulatory changes. This position is based in the New York office and will serve as the sole legal resource in the US, working closely with senior Investment Officers and the global Legal & Compliance team. The role involves providing expert legal advice and support across various asset classes, ensuring compliance with local and US regulations, and proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top law school, with a preference for those with prior in-house experience and a background in banking and asset management. Key responsibilities for the Senior Legal Counsel include serving as the expert for all local and US regulations, keeping abreast of regulatory changes, and advising the business on necessary adjustments. The role also requires leveraging expertise in securities and/or derivatives to provide strategic legal guidance, as well as drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of legal documents and contracts. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach in a fast-paced environment. Collaboration with the Chief Compliance Officer and the wider Legal & Compliance team is essential, as is the ability to support a variety of NY-based asset classes, including Equities, Credit, and Mortgages, over time.
