Job Description

Conference registration is open until March 7, 2025.

Compensation: $100 per hour, 30 hours per week – both negotiable.

Summary: The Interim Executive Director of Gunston Hall will assure continuity of operations during the transition to a new permanent Executive Director, including liaison with the Board of Regents, maintenance of relationships with major stakeholders, oversight of the preparation of financial documents, general supervision of staff, and continued momentum for projects already underway. In addition, s/he will observe and analyze operations and suggest improvements as appropriate, and facilitate progress in the search for a new permanent Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership:
    1. Ensure continuity of operations.
    2. Serve as interface between Board and staff.
    3. Facilitate search for permanent Executive Director.
    4. Continue stewardship of major donors and other stakeholders, including progress on pending grant match.
    5. Manage relationships with elected officials and appointees in Commonwealth of Virginia government.
    6. Oversee financial operations.
    7. General supervision of staff.
    8. Conduct analysis of organization operations and present findings to Board, with recommendations for improvement.
  2. Financial Management (in conjunction with BRGHI Treasurer):
    1. Ensure all financial documents are produced accurately and on time.
  3. Facilities Management (in conjunction w/ VP for Operations & Mission Impact):
    1. Maintain momentum for repair and construction projects.
  4. Public Relations & Marketing:
    1. Serve as spokesperson for Gunston Hall where appropriate.
  5. Personnel:
    1. General supervision of staff.
    2. Continue professional development of staff.

Requirements & Skills:

  1. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, including board relations, public speaking, and writing.
  2. 4-year college degree; Master’s or PhD a plus, preferably in non-profit management, business, education, museum studies or related fields.
  3. 10+ years in the business, non-profit and/or education sector.
  4. Strong business organization skills, including creating and reviewing financial documents, creating and presenting key data points to the Board.
  5. Experience with public/private partnerships.
  6. Experience with fund-raising and campaigns.
  7. Knowledge of common computer programs, including Microsoft.
